FIDM Grad Gottmik to Compete on RuPaul's Drag Race

Merchandise Product Development Graduate Kade Gottlieb, better known as Gottmik, will compete in the upcoming 13th season of RuPaul’s Drag Race on VH1. A Los Angeles-based makeup artist with more than 200,000 followers on Instagram, Gottmik is the first out transgender man ever cast on the Emmy-winning reality series, according to the Los Angeles Times. The publication featured the FIDM Alumnus in a news article that ran last week.

“I need to be the first trans winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race. Period,” Gottmik said during last week’s Meet the Queens special on YouTube. “The more and more I got comfortable with my gender identity, the more I got to play with the drag/Gottmik side, and now that it’s solely my art, it’s just the best thing in the world.”

A well-known figure in the drag and makeup world, the 23-year-old artist has worked with stars such as Lil Nas X, Paris Hilton, Kaia Gerber, Heidi Klum, and French Montana, among others. “I moved to LA originally to go to fashion school, and then my makeup career took off unexpectedly,” Gottmik said. “It’s so important for me to represent LA this season... I think people are going to be really surprised by how competitive I am.”
